Farnham Road Club have held their second open time trial of the 2024 season.

The ten-mile event on the A31-based course was organised by Paul Charman. Jim Brown and Michael Rice were timekeepers, and various club members assisted with marshalling and other duties.

Although the number of riders was not as great as had been hoped, competition was fierce. Prizes were awarded in separate categories for those riding time-trial specific bikes and those on traditional road bikes.

Peter Allen (Team Velo Sportif) finished first in the open category on time trial bikes in 20min 03secs. He edged out Renzo Casale (University of Bath CC), who recorded 20min 04secs. The fastest female on a time trial bike was Gail Walker (VC Godalming & Haslemere) in 27min 49secs. Ginetta George (Total Tri Training) finished second in 31min 01secs.

In the road bike category, Adam Page (Paceline RT) finished first in the open event in 22min 01secs. He edged out his team-mate Matt Phipps-Taylor, who finished 20 seconds slower in 22min 21secs. The fastest female rider on a road bike was Ida Smith (Onyx RT) in 25min 59secs. Second place went to Farnham’s Lindsay Bamford in 32min 14secs.

Five other Farnham Road Club riders finished in the road bike category. Roger Taylor finished in 23min 55secs, Stuart Morgan in 25min 25secs, Simon Carson-Jones in 27min 07secs, David Butler in 27min 27secs and Richard Williams in 27min 54secs.

Race headquarters were at Farnham Town Football Club, where riders and officials met for refreshments after the event.
