Alton manager Kevin Adair was delighted with his side’s performance after they picked up a comprehensive 3-0 win against Knaphill.

Goals from Adam Poynter, Aley McAllister and Scott Sanderson fired the Brewers to a deserved three points in front of a crowd of 235 at Anstey Park Enclosure.

“It was another good performance,” said Adair.

“We've shown up consistently in the past two months but this time we've got the rewards we deserved – a clean sheet, three goals and three points.

“There were all-round good performances from everyone.

“It's come together and I’m really pleased.

“I thought our centre-halves were superb – I don't want to single anyone out but the two centre-halves as a pair were brilliant.

“I also thought Liam Marshall was superb – it's probably his best performance for us.

“He's learning more about the game and how to play.

“The decisions he's making now are a lot better than what they were at the start of the season.

“How long we can keep hold of someone like him is a question that will soon be asked but the group is growing – unfortunately for us it's grown a bit later in the season than it did last year but there's no reason why we can't finish in a positive position and try to get near the middle of the table and then go again.”

The hosts took the lead in the first minute through Poynter’s goal, and Adair was delighted with his side’s fast start.

“We turned them around, Owen Tanner goes out into an area and delivers a ball and Adam makes the run to the back post as a second striker,” said Adair.

“It's simple but it does work and to get that gave us a good stepping stone to move on and be positive in the game.”

Adair admitted he has had seven-day approaches for Poynter, but hailed the good environment at Alton for helping to keep players at the club.

“Seven-day approaches come in for Adam every other week but he's still here so we're doing something right,” said Adair.

“We’ve had approaches for four or five players regularly this season and they've stayed.

“I've got to thank them for buying into what we do – it's easy to go somewhere that might give them an opportunity to play for the play-offs.

“We have a purpose of what we're doing – there's a reason why we do it and how we do it and people enjoy it, so hopefully they'll stay and then we'll see what we can do.”
