Badshot Lea slipped to a 4-0 Boxing Day defeat at home to high-flying Ascot United in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Goals from Ben Harris, former Baggie Harvey Harry, Aiden Payne-James and George Lock gave the visitors the three points at Westfield Lane.
The Baggies created the first chance of the afternoon in the 16th minute when Finlay Evans was played through one-on-one with Ascot keeper Mark Scott, but Scott was off his line quickly to smother the ball.
The visitors nearly broke the deadlock a minute later when Harris picked out Payne-James at the back post, but his volley went over the bar.
Payne-James played a nice one-two with Connor Holland on 23 minutes, but Baggies keeper Harry Cawdron was off his line quickly to close the angle and block Payne-James’ effort.
The Baggies had a good chance to take the lead in the 25th minute when Joe Lewis-Evans whipped a nice cross in to Evans, who took a touch before hitting his right-foot shot just wide of the right-hand post.
Charlie George went close for the Baggies two minutes later when he drove forward and hit a powerful low right-foot shot which was well parried behind by Scott for a corner.
Ascot nearly took the lead on 34 minutes when Harry Grant’s free kick picked out Chad Goulter at the back post, and Goulter’s low downward header was well held by Cawdron.
The Baggies had a good chance to go ahead a minute later when Evans’ shot was well blocked by the advancing Scott, who closed down the angle well. The ball rebounded to George, and his follow-up shot was blocked by Scott.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when a neat one-two between Harris and Payne-James put Harris through on goal and he rifled a powerful right-foot shot past Cawdron and into the roof of the net.
Ascot doubled their advantage on 45 minutes when Harris’ backheel put former Baggie Harry through on goal and Harry smashed his finish past Cawdron.
The visitors went 3-0 up in the 48th minute when Payne-James came inside from the right and smashed a powerful shot past Cawdron and into the roof of the net.
The Baggies kept plugging away and nearly pulled a goal back on 57 minutes when Evans cut in from the left and hit a powerful right-foot shot which was gathered by Scott at the second attempt.
Ascot made it 4-0 in the 86th minute when Khalid Simmo’s cross was helped on by Holland to substitute George Lock, who rolled the ball home from close range.
Next up for the Baggies is a trip to league leaders Farnham Town in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday, December 28 (3pm kick-off).
