League leaders Farnham Town kept their Isthmian League South Central Division promotion push on track with a 2-1 win at home to Uxbridge.
First-half goals from Jack Dean and Great Evans gave the hosts the three points in front of a crowd of 676 at The Memorial Ground.
The hosts had the first chance of the afternoon in the third minute when Jack Dean cut in from the right and hit a left-foot shot which was held by Uxbridge keeper George Legg.
Town produced a free-flowing move five minutes later when Adam Liddle slipped a pass through to Evans, who cut the ball back to Sam De St Croix, whose shot was well blocked by Dernell Wynter.
Farnham took the lead on 22 minutes when a deep free kick was headed home by Jack Dean from close range.
Town continued to push and doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark when De St Croix’s shot from just outside the box was spilled by Legg and Evans confidently fired the rebound home.
The visitors pulled a goal back four minutes later when a long throw caused chaos in the Farnham box and Town skipper inadvertently Ryan Kinnane headed into his own net.
Uxbridge then nearly equalised in first-half stoppage time when Wynter headed over from close range.
Farnham were quick out of the traps at the start of the second half and nearly went 3-1 up in the 47th minute when Harry Cooksley’s corner picked out Ben Purcell, whose header was cleared off the line.
Town went close again two minutes later when Owen Dean laid the ball off for De St Croix, and his shot from the edge of the box was heading for the top corner until it was superbly tipped over the bar by Legg.
The hosts created another good chance on 62 minutes when Cooksley’s free kick picked out the unmarked Jack Dean at the back post, but his header back across goal was parried away by Legg.
Uxbridge then pushed hard for an equaliser, and George Moore’s indirect free kick in the 74th minute was superbly blocked by the diving Jordan Stepney.
The visitors put a number of dangerous deliveries in the Farnham box, with Moore heading wide when well placed on 77 minutes.
Farnham nearly scored a third in the 90th minute when Purcell’s shot from just outside the box flashed past the post.
Seven minutes of added time were indicated as Uxbridge pushed for a leveller, but Town stood up to the challenge and saw out the game to pick up an important three points against a promotion rival.
Next up for Farnham is a home game against Guernsey in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Wednesday, March 12 (7.45pm kick-off).
