An injury to a match official made it a blank Saturday for Farnham Town.

Farnham were in FA Vase Second Round Proper action against Kent side Snodland Town of the Southern Counties East Football League.

The game was abandoned after 18 goalless minutes when an assistant referee limped off with a pulled calf muscle.

Earlier this season the League One match between Portsmouth and Cheltenham Town continued with a local league official called from the stands after two assistant referees could not carry on.

But this time no agreement could be made on a possible replacement to carry the flag, so the match will have to be re-staged at The Memorial Ground.

The third round draw has given the eventual winners a home tie against Combined Counties Premier Division North outfit Burnham.

Farnham manager Paul Johnson said: “It was very strange. A referee stepped forward who officiates at Step 7, but Snodland weren’t happy with that, then a Step 4 one came forward on social media who was from Alton and had run the line in the National League South.

“They dictated what happened. All the players wanted it played, including the Snodland ones. The referee should have shown some authority and said ‘this is what we’re going to go with’, or rung the FA for advice. It was all their manager’s doing really.

“It was a shame because we had a good crowd in. We hit the post and had the better chances, and it looked like it was going to be a good cup tie, so it was disappointing.

“That’s the second time this season it’s happened to us. In the FA Cup at Flackwell Heath we were winning with ten minutes to go when there was a medical emergency. After that they said their players weren’t in a fit state of mind to play on.”
