Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson saw plenty of positives after his side slipped to a 4-1 pre-season defeat against Bracknell Town at The Memorial Ground.

The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute through Great Evans’ deflected shot, but Farnham got back on level terms on 18 minutes when Ryan Kinnane riffled home after a corner caused chaos in the Bracknell box.

Farnham created plenty of chances to take the lead, but were beaten by second-half goals from Elliot Legg, a trialist and Dylan Ive.

“It was a strange night but there were a lot of changes,” said Johnson.

“We said to the boys at the start not to do anything stupid. I thought we adapted ourselves really well.

“For the first ten minutes they (Bracknell) came out the blocks and caused us a few problems, but after ten minutes we were the better side. We were unlucky not to be two or three up at half-time.

“It continued the same way in the second half. We should have been 3-1 up before they scored the second.

“We gifted them two simple goals to put them 3-1 up and then they’ve hit a great free kick at the end. Overall, it's been a great pre-season.

“We were dominant for large parts of it and created a lot of chances. Lewis Flatman's hit the post and Darryl Sanders has skimmed the top of the bar. There were a couple of balls across the box that just needed poking in and Mike Eacott in goal for Bracknell has pulled off five top class saves.

“It was a positive night going forward, but I’m a little bit disappointed we didn't put a few away.

“We brought a few trialists in to top the numbers up so we could get the majority off at half-time. It was pre-planned and I thought in the second half a lot of them were really good. There were just a couple of silly mistakes.”

Johnson is now looking forward to the season getting underway, with Farnham travelling to Tunbridge Wells in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday (3pm).

“We’re in a really good place,” said Johnson. “Everyone's fit and raring to go. We've had a really good pre-season.

“We’re back in the cup competitions and there's a result at the end of it. We'll see how we go and hopefully it's positive.

“We’ll be nice and relaxed going into Saturday. We'll concentrate on what we want to do, how we want to play and how we can win games.”
