Petersfield Town Juniors under-13 Girls’ Whirlwinds won the plate at the club’s annual six-a-side summer tournament.

The Whirlwinds entered two teams – a blue team and a yellow team – and the blue team won the plate. This is the first time a Petersfield girls’ team has won at the club’s home tournament.

After qualifying for the plate, the Whirlwinds beat Pace Tigresses on penalties in the quarter-finals. The Whirlwinds fell behind against Stubbington in the semi-finals, but Tabitha Haigh equalised – which led to another penalty shootout.

Petersfield scored all their spot kicks and Alia Hutchings-Santofimia made the key save. The Whirlwinds won a hard-fought final 1-0 against Portchester, with Haigh scoring the only goal.

The Whirlwinds’ yellow team won all three group games in the trophy, but were beaten 1-0 by eventual winners Worthys Youth.
