Petersfield Town kept their play-off push on track with a 2-1 win at home to Little Common in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division.

The Rams were on the front foot from the off and the returning Callum Kimber fired just wide from close range.

The hosts went close again on 21 minutes when Asad Ssemwogerere linked up with Kian Towse and the resulting shot coming off the outside of the post.

Petersfield opened the scoring on 37 minutes when Towse nipped in front of Little Common keeper Matt Cruttwell and prodded home.

Superb work from Harrison Cable supplied Towse with an excellent chance which he blazed over early in the second half.

The miss proved costly as the visitors won a penalty when Will Webb’s block on the line came off his arm. Webb was shown a yellow card.

Russell Eldridge stepped up from the spot and sent Rams keeper Ellis Grant the wrong way to make it 1-1.

Petersfield soon regained the momentum, with a couple of efforts going just wide from Ssemwogerere and Liam Kimber.

Ssemwogerere grabbed the winning goal in the 72nd minute when Towse’s cross was touched on by Cable for Ssemwogerere to slam in at the back post.

Ssemwogerere had a chance to seal the game in added time but Cruttwell made a superb reaction stop at the back post.

Petersfield co-manager Connor Hoare said: “We played well in the first half and should have been further ahead at half-time.

“Little Common had a good spell in the second half and deserved their goal.

“We responded well to the equaliser, upped our intensity and deservedly got a winner.

“It was all about getting the three points.

“The play-off race is so tight – the teams that deal with the pressure best will make it.”
