Petersfield Town thrashed AFC Varndeanians 5-0 at Love Lane to make it four wins out of four in the Southern Combination Premier Division and go top of the league.

The Rams produced attractive, attacking football from the off and created multiple chances.

Asad Ssemwogerere did well down the left early on to set up Dec Seiden, whose effort was deflected over the bar.

Tom Dinsmore then opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a long-range effort through bodies which found the bottom corner.

Petersfield continued to be a threat, with Harrison Cable going close. Superb one-touch football opened up space in the box, and Cable’s effort was well saved by Sonni Nealgrove. Cable had another chance when he was one-on-one with Nealgrove, but the visiting keeper closed the space to make the block. Cable then went close again with an effort which struck the post.

Seiden, flourishing in his role as target man, headed his side into a comfortable lead at the break. Coming onto a corner at the near post, his header took a deflection as it went into the roof of the net.

The Rams went 3-0 up early in the second half when Cable’s low cross was slammed in by Callum Kimber.

The visitors were then reduced to ten men when Owen Benfell received two yellow cards. The first was for kicking the ball away and the second was for a dangerous tackle in the middle of the park on Sam Ndlovu.

Oli Davies grabbed the fourth with 15 minutes to go. A poor goal kick saw a quick transition starting with Liam Kimber, before a deft touch from Seiden set up Davies to drill low into the far corner.

Visiting substitute Scott Packer was sin binned in the 87th minute and Ndlovu won a penalty minutes later, converted by Seiden down the middle.

Petersfield co-manager Connor Hoare was delighted with his side’s performance.

“We challenged the lads to match the intensity of the the first three league games and they did that,” said Hoare.

“We’ve got good momentum. We need to roll with it and see where it takes us.”
