Petersfield Town manager Connor Hoare is satisfied with his first season in charge of the Rams.
Hoare and his assistant Callum Glen finished their debut season in management with a mid-table Wessex League Premier Division finish and a run to the Portsmouth Senior Cup semi-finals.
The Rams’ season came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at home to the Royal Navy FA in the Portsmouth Senior Cup semi-finals last Thursday evening (April 25).
The Navy played a high-possession style, while Petersfield adopted a good defensive shape. Rams keeper Harry Greenfield stuck out a strong left palm to deny a long-range effort before Petersfield’s Tommy Tierney showed quick feet to dodge defenders and force a superb save from visiting keeper Dane Rigby.
Petersfield started the second half brightly and Liam Kimber slipped an effort just wide on the angle. Charlie Merritt was next to go close, but he scuffed his volley at the back post wide.
The Navy broke the deadlock on 70 minutes when Elliot Holmes stabbed the ball past Greenfield, before scoring a second in stoppage time.
Hoare said: “It was a good game of football. We had our chances at 0-0, and if we had taken one of those chances and got the first goal it could have been a different game. Ultimately we paid the price for missing chances.
“After the club’s promotion last season the main target for this season was to stay in the Wessex Premier Division. We’ve finished 13th and stayed up comfortably. After 38 games you finish where you deserve to finish, so 13th is a fair reflection.
“We’ve had some really impressive performances this season, such as the win at home to Baffins, and if we can be more consistent then hopefully we can be closer to the play-offs next season.”
