GRAHAM Brookland, co-founder of Aldershot Town FC, has announced that the To Make A Dream Survive event held at Potter’s Hotel in Aldershot will raise over £5000 for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham.
The event arose from the recent publication of To Make A Dream Survive, Brookland’s account of his association with the two Aldershot clubs, and former players and managers attended to make it a special evening.
Those present, representing both Aldershot FC (1926-92) and Aldershot Town, were Keith Baker, Neil Baker, Darren Barnard, Barry Blankley, George Borg, Murray Brodie, Terry Brown, Nikki Bull, Glen Burvill, Mark Butler, Stuart Cash, Jason Chewins, Colin Fielder, John Grant, Ben Herd, Joe Jopling, Tony Lange, Martin Kuhl, Alex McGregor, Andy Nunn, Paul Priddy, Tim Sills, Steve Stairs, Jimmy Sugrue, Stuart Udal and Gary Waddock.
The guests also included former chairmen Terry Owens and Karl Prentice, current chairman Shahid Azeem, manager Barry Smith, player Richard Brodie and director Brian Bloomfield.
Several were invited onto the stage to discuss their time at the clubs. There was also a poignant presentation to Shahid Azeem who received a montage covering the final days of Aldershot FC with a message ‘Never Forget’ that has been installed into the Phoenix Lounge at the club.
Long-serving goalkeeper Nikki Bull presented Graham Brookland with the shirt he wore at Aldershot Town’s inaugural Football League match at Accrington Stanley in August 2008.
Copies of To Make A Dream Survive sold between now and Christmas will see a further donation of £5 a time donated to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The book (£15) can be purchased by contacting Graham Brookland via [email protected] or on Twitter @grahambrookland
