Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson has hailed his side’s mentality as they push for promotion from the Isthmian League South Central Division.
Town kept their title bid on track with a 1-0 win at home to South Park (Reigate) on Saturday.
Farnham dominated possession and territory, but had to show patience to eventually wear down their opponents.
“I thought we passed the ball really well in the first half – especially in the first 20 minutes,” said Johnson.
“We had a purpose about us but it didn't quite come off in the final third.
“We got a bit frustrated with ourselves towards the end of the half and South Park’s gameplan worked for them.
“We told the boys to up the tempo in the second half and find a different way.
“We had been quite predictable passing the ball across the back and trying to find the pockets.
“We needed to mix it up a bit and spin one in behind to try to get Adam Liddle a little bit higher and running in behind.
“The substitutes changed the game for us.
“Darryl Sanders’ touches and his weight of passing dragged people out and Owen Dean's goal was a great finish.
“Since we've been here it has been all about the squad.
“It always will be a squad with us and they all continue to play their part.
“We want good performances but you don't always get them and this is the funny time of the season.
“There was a bit of desperation in our play at times because the finish line is close but it is an important three points.
“South Park sat back and made it hard and at times we got a bit desperate in certain moments, but once the goal came it settled us down.”
Evans was straight in the matchday squad for the South Park game and made his debut off the bench, and Johnson is delighted to be reunited with a player he previously managed at Bedfont Sports.
“I’m excited to get him in,” said Johnson.
“He is a physical presence and he's going to be a handful in the run in.
“I’m happy with what he did when he came on.
“This is a good opportunity for him to get going, get to know the surroundings and hopefully hit the ground running.”
