Frensham Pond Sailability has recently taken delivery of three new boats.
One – a Hansa 303 two-person dinghy – was purchased thanks to the generosity of Cranleigh Golf Club members.
A year’s fundraising from dozens of activities at the club – particularly a very successful pro-am tournament – resulted in a large sum being raised.
Captain Graham Cheeseman and ladies’ captain Stella Gravill selected Frensham Pond Sailability to be their chosen charity, and they went to Frensham Pond to launch the new boat. The name, Fairwinds, was suggested by Peter Manly, who is also a volunteer at Sailability.
The ceremony began with a sparkling splash of Prosecco on the bow, and it was then launched and prepared for its maiden voyage. The first person to sail was Stella, accompanied by Sailability chairman of trustees Philip Knights – and they enjoyed a gentle sail on a beautiful, sunny day.
Graham and guests went out on another Sailability boat, a Stratos.
The second new boat, Calypso, was also launched recently. It is a 2.3 Hansa dinghy, ideal for those learning to sail.
It was bought thanks to the generosity of the Farnham Town Council Community Fund and the Community Fund for Surrey charity, which bring together donors and good causes to facilitate projects aimed at helping the disadvantaged in the community.
Attending the launch from the charity were Zoe Coltart, Hana Rhodes and a volunteer, John. John officially launched the boat with some bubbly, and then went for a maiden sail with Sailability fundraising officer Simon Crowther.
The third new boat, 2Js, was donated by former Sailability volunteer Julian Behmber and his wife Joy. They wanted their bequest to be enjoyed while they were still alive.
