It was a rollercoaster night at Dagenham & Redbridge for Aldershot Town manager Tommy Widdrington as he watched his side go from certain defeat to almost nicking a draw in 17 minutes.
But ultimately the Shots lost 3-2, and asked what his thoughts were afterwards, Widdrington said: “Frustration, the biggest one.”
He added: “Over the 90 minutes I thought we, despite the fact we were down to ten men for the vast majority of the second half, were asking the more questions.
“We’ve had the better chances, we’ve had balls flash across their goal, we’ve hit the post twice, Jack’s had a really good chance right at the death.
“But look, I’m not going to have a go at anybody in particular. I thought we were on the wrong end of a couple of decisions that could have gone either way. They didn’t go for us again.”
But Widdrington warned his team they had to make their own luck.
He said: “But we’ve got to accept, and I’ve just told the group there, we’ve got to be braver, stronger, more manful in certain situations and not take the easy route out, simple as that.
“I’m devastated we’ve lost the football match but I’m delighted with the way we responded to conceding the two goals after playing 50 minutes in the first half where there was only one team going to go on and win the game, and it looked like us.
“So my overriding emotion is frustration, and obviously disappointment because we didn’t take anything from the game.”
