The Petersfield Challenge Cup was played at Alton Golf Club recently.
Alton’s golf course was at its spring best, and Alton captain Sally Matthews ably led her team to victory over Petersfield and Hartley Wintney golf clubs.
But even after countback there was nothing to split her team from the Romsey entry, so for the first time in the 30-year history of this team event the trophy was shared.
The event is mixed greensomes, and Petersfield’s lady captain Heidi Oliver, playing with Gary Harfield, took the individual honours with 42 stableford points.

A free summer karate mini camp will be held at Alton Community Centre on July 24 and 31, and August 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 6pm to 7pm.
The camp is designed to be fun and engaging, offering light but useful martial arts training suitable for all age groups. Participants only need to wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring a good mood. No special equipment is required, and the training is enjoyable and beneficial.
A spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to stay active, learn new skills and make new friends during the summer holidays. We would love to see people from Alton take part in this exciting and memorable experience.”
