Blackmoor golfer Sam Parsons has continued his winning streak by securing the coveted club championship title with an impressive gross score of 138 (67 & 71).

The club championship weekend is Blackmoor’s pinnacle competition when golfers compete in a 36-hole scratch medal for the Wishart Trophy. A line-up of 163 golfers entered the event with 72 golfers making the cut to play in the second round of the competition.

After the first round Parsons was ahead of the field leading with 67 (-2) following two birdies, two bogeys and an eagle at the eighth. Starting the second round he was playing alongside last year’s winner Robbie Boxall and Nev Slade, who were both just two behind on 69, with Ryan Bone also on 69 playing in the group in front.

Parsons looked unflappable with no one really challenging his lead. After finishing in second place last year, this year he continued his magnificent season to claim the top spot and the club championship title.

Parsons said: “It feels great, there’s a good handful of us that have good banter and always enjoy a good battle trying to win the club championships, so it felt incredible to win especially after winning the Hampshire County Championship and my little boy being born in the same year.

“I would love to defend the Blackmoor Bowl, for Hampshire to win the league and the league finals again, and then win the champion of champions at Woodhall Spa in September. That would be a perfect year.”

Parsons has been a member of Blackmoor Golf Club since 2015 and has an impressive handicap of plus 3.9. In June he was crowned Hampshire County Champion at the Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands Amateur Championship.

Also contested at the club championships was Blackmoor’s second major competition, the Kerridge Bowl, a 36-hole handicap medal championship, which was won by George Brindley with a net 133 (68 & 65).

The Blackmoor Ladies also played in their 18-hole summer medal competition, which was won by Lynnette Knight with 72.

The Bruce Cup, a junior scratch medal played over 36 holes, was won by Sam Cathcart-Jones.
