Aldershot & Farnham (A&F) Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team earned an impressive 2-2 draw at South East Women’s Premier Division leaders Guildford.

The game started at a fast pace, with both sides keen to make an impact.

A&F took a bit of time to settle, but Guildford failed to capitalise on their early advances.

Guildford then won a corner and although Tammy Cherry blocked the first shot, the ball bounced clear for the home side to put the ball in the net and go 1-0 up.

Unperturbed, the Shots built their own attack.

A ball in from Louise Laws found Emily Desmond at the top of the D, who won a corner.

Phoebe Bryant slid the ball across for Cherry to deflect into the goal and make it 1-1 at half-time.

The Shots started the second half strongly.

Sacha Mullins settled into her new role in centre-midfield and kept her opposite number out of the game.

The Shots built some promising attacks and the visitors’ forward line kept the pressure on, with Sophie Edwards and Charlotte Clive making some excellent steals.

Guildford went back on the attack and Shots keeper Taylor Goodrich was called into action several times.

A&F’s defence made a couple of goalline clearances, while Grace Wilkinson battled through illness and calmly took the ball away from danger several times.

Guildford’s pressure paid off and they regained the lead with a well-taken shot from the top of the D.

A&F went back on the attack and Sophia Fielding got the ball to Cherry and Eloise White.

Cherry won a corner from a baseline drive and Bryant took the shot. The ball hit several Guildford players in front of goal and a penalty was awarded.

Bryant calmly converted the penalty stroke to make it 2-2 and earn the Shots an excellent point.
