Aldershot & Farnham (A&F) Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team drew 1-1 at home to Bromley & Beckenham in the South East Women’s Premier Division on Saturday.

The game was end-to-end early on with opportunities for both teams, but neither side were able to get the opening goal.

A number of interceptions in the press from Charlotte Clive and Eloise White caused problems for the visitors.

Fiona Stewart then sent a ball into the D to Emily Desmond, who was just unable to get a shot away before being surrounded.

The visitors then went on the attack and took the lead just before half-time from a corner.

A&F regrouped at half-time and Harriet Beadsley made an excellent drive into the visitors’ D and won a short corner.

The short corner was slipped left and the A&F effort just missed the target.

Desmond then received a green card after an overenthusiastic effort to win the ball back, and the Shots had to absorb plenty of pressure from the visitors.

Bromley & Beckenham were awarded a free hit and hit the ball straight into the D and won a short corner.

A&F’s defence stood firm and keeper Taylor Goodrich made a strong save before the ball was eventually cleared.

With five minutes to go and the score still 1-0 the Shots pushed on with Sophie Edwards and Sophia Fielding combining down the right and Tammy Cherry driving through from left-back all the way into the 25.

The Shots won a corner and produced a slick routine to get back on level terms.

The ball went out to Desmond at the top and was then slipped left to Phoebe Bryant. Bryant’s cross took a deflection off a visiting defender and Edwards watched the ball go over the line as the Shots earned a valuable point.
