Haslemere’s men’s first team won 2-1 at Oxford University in South Central Men’s Premier Division One on Saturday.
The match began with both teams displaying their attacking prowess.
Oxford started strongly, putting pressure on the Haslemere defence. However, the visitors matched the home side’s intensity.
Haslemere took the lead when Beaney pounced on a trap set for Oxford and finished expertly from Bio’s precise cut-back.
Oxford started the second half on the front foot and equalised from a short corner.
Both teams pushed hard for a winner. Haslemere’s speed on the counter-attack became increasingly effective and created multiple opportunities.
With ten minutes remaining Davis played an excellent pass to Ben, who went past the home goalkeeper and fired Haslemere ahead.
The visitors held their nerve in the closing stages to secure the victory.
Haslemere will host Trojans on Saturday (12.15pm).
Haslemere’s women’s first team slipped to a 4-0 defeat at home to Havant in South Central Women’s Premier Division Two on Saturday.
The home side started the game with plenty of energy, and created some good chances, but lacked a clinical edge in the D.
Havant scored their first goal after ten minutes through a deflection off a cross from the left baseline.
Haslemere won the ball high up the pitch with a good press, which led to a penalty stroke after 15 minutes. A good save by the Havant goalkeeper denied Haslemere an equaliser.
The visitors doubled their advantage after 25 minutes from a strong run down the right-hand side by their captain, who flicked the ball past the Haslemere goalkeeper.
Haslemere came out fighting after half-time and had the ball in the Havant net five minutes into the second half, but the goal was disallowed.
The visitors scored two goals in the last ten minutes to run out comprehensive winners.
Haslemere’s women will travel to Sonning on Saturday (12pm).
