Haslemere’s women’s first team came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Chichester in South Central Women’s Premier Division Two.
Haslemere welcomed Chichester to The Edge on Saturday and expected a tough match.
The home side were quick out of the blocks and had a number of promising attacks, but they were unable to find an opening goal.
A dangerous Chichester side turned up the pressure, winning a number of short corners in quick succession.
Haslemere’s defence looked rock solid and worked extremely hard against a fast and threatening attack.
Iona Richardson was stifling attacks down the right, with Annie Bergqvist and Klara Rea snuffing out chances and distributing well to ease the pressure.
Goalkeeper Jo Burder made a number of excellent saves.
The home side suffered a blow when Alice Toynton had to leave the field with a nasty-looking finger injury, and Chichester then scored from a short corner to take the lead.
Already deprived of the services of leading scorer Cindi Pretorious, a youthful Haslemere attacking line then scored two superb goals.
The equaliser arrived when Emilie Barton latched onto an excellent through ball from Cleo Buirski to round the Chichester keeper and score.
Barton then turned creator for Ottilie Morrogh to deliver an equally-composed finish and put Haslemere 2-1 up.
Chichester remained dangerous on the break, but Haslemere held on for an important win.
Haslemere are in fifth place in the South Central Women’s Premier Division Two table, with only four points separating the five teams placed from third to seventh.
Haslemere’s men’s first team came from behind to win 2-1 at Slough in South Central Men’s Premier Division One on Saturday.
Despite winning the reverse fixture 6-0 in the first half of the season, Haslemere knew Slough were much improved and had achieved some strong results at home.
The game started quickly with Haslemere looking to move the ball at speed and take advantage of the space afforded to them by the home side.
The final pass or skill was missing for Haslemere and Slough took the lead from a tap in at the back post after a loopy shot had outfoxed Haslemere keeper Ben Proudlove.
Haslemere went into half-time 1-0 down and knew they had to be clinical in the second half against a tough side who were making life difficult for the visitors.
The visitors started to make their superior tempo and fitness pay off in the second half and won a series of short corners.
The equaliser duly arrived for Haslemere when Max deflected the ball home to make it 1-1 and level the scores.
The second goal was well crafted by the visitors.
Max was the provider this time, finding Marco van Raalte open in the D.
Van Raalte rounded the Slough keeper and slotted the ball into the open net to put Haslemere 2-1 up.
The visitors deserved their lead and closed out the game in a professional manner, retaining the ball well and snuffing out any chances from Slough.
Haslemere are currently in third place in the South Central Men’s Premier Division One table, and are four points behind second-placed Trojans.
Haslemere’s men’s first team will hope to keep their winning run going when they host Oxford OBU on Sunday in a rearranged fixture (2pm start).
