FARNHAM showjumper Jenna Good, riding Western King, won the Pony Discovery Championship Final at the British Showjumping Championships at Stoneleigh.
It was the final class of the day and an incredible 94 starters come forward to tackle the 1.05m course built by lead designer Jason Abbs.
Despite the exceptional talent on display, just nine made it through to the jump-off, of which only two riders achieved a double clear.
With the fastest time of the two, it was 15-year-old Jenna who took the Pony Discovery title.
She had travelled from Hampshire with two ponies. Her other ride, Moscombe Sirius, placed fourth in the Pony Restricted Rider 1.10m Championship Final and second in the Pony British Novice Championship Final.
Jenna has only been riding Western King, a 10-year-old grey gelding, since last October after her sister stopped eventing him, so this was a remarkable achievement for the partnership.
“I just wanted to go for time in the jump-off,” said Jenna. “I was even prepared to have a pole down, so when I realised we had gone clear I was really pleased.
“Sometimes you just have to go for it and we were going so fast I nearly forgot where to go.”
She will be moving on to horses next season. “It was a perfect end to the season and I achieved what I set out to do. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
