Bracing winds resulted in a brace of goals for Petersfield’s women’s 2nd XI as they secured a weather-blown 2-1 win over Alton’s women’s 3rd XI.

Facing the lashing rain and howling winds of Storm Bert, Petersfield came out of the blocks fast from the first whistle, with Anneka and Milly in midfield creating attacking opportunities in the Alton half.

A flurry of short corners frustratingly produced no goals. Possession bounced between both ends of the pitch, with Heapy and Martel working hard on the wings to work the ball through to the forwards O’Sullivan, Stratton-Brown and Edgar, and the half-time score was 0-0.

Alton started the second half with strong attacking play, forcing several short corners which were successfully repelled by goalie Elise and the defensive back line of Preston, Hulme, Llewelyn and de Baros.

Petersfield's first goal came from an attacking run up the wing by Preston, who crossed the ball across the goal for Meg to finish off, scoring her first goal for Petersfield.

But from a short corner Alton equalised with a fast hit which went straight through goalie Elise’s legs.

Preston again made a run through the Alton defence, this time with a cross for Edgar to finish and score her first ever goal.

The final minutes of the game saw frantic Alton pressure, but they were unable to equalise.

In blustery but dry conditions, Petersfield’s under-14 boys travelled to Gosport to see if they could return to winning ways after losing to Chichester last week.

Going 2-0 down after ten minutes was not what was needed, but a rally saw Alfie crash the ball into the net to bring Petersfield back into the game.

Moving the ball quickly out wide resulted in some really promising breaks, but sadly for Petersfield these were rare and they were contained in midfield.

Gosport moved into a 4-1 lead before an assertive penalty flick from Rupert after a surging run by Matthew gave a flicker of hope.

Another break by Gosport then caught Petersfield napping, but the final score of 5-2 did not reflect the even nature of the match.
