THE Great Britain floorball team travelled to Slovakia to take part in the World Cup qualifiers and local side Southern Vipers provided six of the squad.

Five of them used to play for the Farnham youth team, Farnham Fireballs, and so the Vipers contributed more players than any other British side.

Although Team GB failed to qualify, they gave a good performance.

Indeed, Farnham Shooting Stars youth coach, Andrew Field, scored the first goal of the tournament and was also named Britain’s Most Valuable Player in the fixture against Spain.

Local charities, including Farnham Round Table and Surrey Border Lions, provided some much-needed financial assistance for some of the players competing in the week-long qualification tournament in Slovakia.

New floorball players will be welcomed at Farnham Sports Centre on Saturday afternoons (4.30pm for school year 7 and below; 5.30pm for school year 10 and below).
