SURREY Police have launched an appeal to identify a man caught on CCTV in connection with an assault at Haslemere’s Waitrose supermarket, earlier this summer.

A man attempted to befriend a young mother with two young children outside the store in West Street, before following them around once they were inside.

He then tried to grab the woman’s wrists, causing some bruising. The incident happened at around 11am, on June 29, but officers have only released details in the past week.

The man did not speak English and used his phone to translate a conversation with the woman.

The man (pictured right) is described as around 5ft 10ins tall, of a large build with olive skin, short dark hair which was balding on top, a plump face, a large hooked nose, hazel eyes and stained teeth.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the man seen on CCTV is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101. Alternatively, the public can report information anonymously, and free, by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
