BOURNE Wood Manor Care Home was officially opened on July 6 by television presenter, broadcaster and writer Angela Rippon, CBE.

Angela was awarded a CBE last year for services to dementia care, in her role as development lead with Dementia Friendly Communities. She is also an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and as a broadcaster, is currently a reporter on ‘The One Show’ and was a recent presenter on ‘How to Stay Young’.

Angela knows all too well about the challenges of choosing a care home for a loved one, as she had to choose one for her own mother. She considers that “the most important thing, after the quality of care, is physical and mental stimulation as you get older”.

Care is at the heart of everything Bourne Wood Manor does, with a professional hand-selected team focused on providing independence, privacy, respect and wellbeing for every resident.

Boredom is never an option - social and mental stimulation is very high on the home’s agenda. As with every Porthaven home, the design throughout is intended to provide a beautiful, spacious and innovative place to live, providing 24-hour nursing, dementia and respite care.

There is even the very newest revolutionary technology of the OMI interactive table, which allows residents to play all sorts of games, quizzes and encourages reminiscence and brain training. This complements a programme of award-winning optional leisure and wellness activities.

Bourne Wood Manor has a community feel throughout, with a choice of communal living areas and dining areas, a cafe, cinema, hairdressing salon, landscaped garden and even a private dining room for special family celebrations.

Sue Arquier, the home manager, said: “At the official opening of our lovely new home, Angela chatted to and charmed residents and staff, sharing her own experiences of choosing a care home for her mother.

“We at Bourne Wood Manor were extremely happy to have such an eloquent ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society.”
