THE Hampshire Hunt saw a “great turn out” for its annual Boxing Day meet.
It attracted more than 600 people on foot, as well as some 50 horses.
Senior master Rupert Harvie said this year’s meet also received “a huge amount of support” from spectators.
“We had a great day trial hunting around Bentworth and the surrounding area,” he added.
“Everyone had a great time jumping and galloping around, thanks to the local farmers and landowners.
“We would like to thank Alton Town Council for allowing us to meet on the Butts, which is a great spectacle and allows everyone to have fun there on Boxing Day.”
Founded in 1745, the Hampshire Hunt is one of the oldest hunts in England and, while members value its heritage, the organisation is “both professional and forward thinking”.
Although the tradition is still a controversial issue for some, the Hampshire Hunt says it fully complies with the Hunting Act 2004.
