THE FIT-OUT for the new REEL Cinema at Farnham’s Brightwells Yard has begun – with an early-2024 opening date now anticipated.
The venue will offer cinema-goers state-of-the art laser picture projection and digital audio in all six screens, a licensed bar and the Reel Lounge, a premium viewing experience with plush sofas and armchairs.
It will be the first purpose-built cinema in Farnham since the closure of the Regal in East Street in 1985, 39 years earlier.
Sunil Suri from REEL Cinemas said: “We are delighted that we can now start our fit-out works and are excited at the prospect of opening the REEL Cinema Farnham at Brightwells Yard.
“With our neighbouring restaurants, extensive garden, public artwork and striking architecture, our latest cinema will be at the heart of the community and a real asset for Farnham town centre.”
Restaurant brand Coppa Club has already signed to occupy Grade II-listed Brightwell House and Crest Nicholson said other restaurants are in “advanced negotiations” with further announcements coming soon.
Heaven’s Kitchen has already announced it is relocating its Farnham steakhouse to a unit next to the cinema.
“It’s great to be able to welcome REEL Cinema to Brightwells Yard,” said Nick Dawuralla, land director at Crest Nicholson.
“The new addition further strengthens our commitment to ensuring Brightwells Yard offers something for everyone with a perfect mix of shopping, restaurants, leisure activities and nearly 240 apartments.”
The Brightwells Yard regeneration scheme will bring a new 25-unit shopping centre, a six-screen Reel cinema, cafés, bars, restaurants, open space, 239 new homes and a multi-level car park to Farnham town centre.
It is now anticipated Brightwells’ restaurants, shops and cinema will all open in the same phase, early next year.
