A popular Brownie unit in Weybourne could be forced to close its doors unless new volunteers step forward to lead the group.

The 1st Weybourne Brownies, a thriving unit with a waiting list of eager young members, is urgently seeking new leaders to take over from September 2025.

Despite strong demand and the potential to grow — with many local girls seeking to move up from Rainbows — the unit cannot continue without fresh support from adult volunteers.

Organiser Debbie Muchmore said: “Fingers crossed someone comes forward to lead the unit otherwise it is likely to close.”

The group, which caters to girls aged 7 to 10, meets once a week for 90 minutes at a local hall with nearby outdoor space.

The meetings follow Girlguiding’s structured programme, designed to help girls build confidence, learn new skills and have fun across six key themes: be well, have adventures, know myself, take action, skills for my future, and express myself.

All new volunteers will receive full training, an assigned mentor, local support, and an enhanced DBS check arranged by Girlguiding.

One current volunteer said: "I love volunteering with Girlguiding. It's great fun, very rewarding and I've made lifelong friends. Running weekly meetings is not as hard as I'd thought it would be.

“Girlguiding has developed a fantastic set of resources including a variety of interest badges that girls can achieve at home or with their Unit, plus skill builder badges that we work towards each week and unit meeting activity cards (there's a set for each theme).

“Brownies is all about learning in a safe environment, whilst having lots of fun with friends.”

Without new leadership, the unit may have no choice but to close, leaving a gap in the local community and disappointing many young girls looking forward to joining.
