The rain has been a pain but green-fingered villagers still put on a blooming wonderful show at one of their biggest events of the year.

The Frensham and Dockenfield Horticultural Society defied the deluge with members putting forward a credible 260 entries for their latest show.

Although entries were down in the flower and vegetable sections other categories had a strong showing with home industries and photography leading the way.

Dan Bosence was this year’s star performer, winning both the vegetable cups, The Stevens Cup for most points in classes 31-44 and the Atherton Cup for a fine collection of vegetables.

He also walked off with the Morris Cup for exhibit of highest merit in the whole show, the Col. Earle Cup for his exploits in the fruit section and the Huitfeldt Cup for accumulating most points in the show.

The Helen Lloyd Trophy for the total number of points in shrub classes 22 and 23 was awarded to Judith Wiles after many years of trying, while Alison Bosence claimed The Hunt Cup for most original flower arrangement.

Jilly Steventon won the Lee-Jones Cup for highest points in Rose classes 5-8 for the seventh consecutive year along and took home the Hunter Cup for most points in flower classes 5-30.

The Bill Othen Vase for dahlias went to Annette Clayson for the first time while Penny Hearn pipped 2023 winner Bridgette Wilson for The Wilson Bowl in the home industries section.

The Dockenfield Cup awarded for most points in the junior section and the Pat Mattin Cup for best junior floral arrangement went to another first-time winner, Lily Easton.

The Machin-Cooke Cup for photography went to Jane Thorne and the ‘People Choice Award’ for best exhibit, voted by visitors, went to Sharon Turner-Mumford for her vase of stunning sunflowers.
