Once a month, Alton Rugby Club in Anstey Park transforms itself from a friendly sports club into one of Alton’s music venues.
D3W3 - which stands for day three, week three - presents three showcase acts of a range of musicians playing original material.
Wednesday, April 17 saw the most recent in a long line of performances which have taken place at the club and it was another classic evening.
First up were The Eclectics, with six players - guitar, violin, djembe, piano, keyboard and singer. Song subjects included lost luggage, psychedelic space voyages, ways to escape awful parties and drunken hobos. This was their first gig but they knew how to play and create a show.
Next was Lyke, short of their usual vocalist. Jeff and Jon covered the set marvellously and gave the audience six original numbers that kept the feel of the evening in just the right place.
Last were The Tim Shez Band, based in Farnborough. Taking influences from singer-songwriters, anthemic stadium bands and cinematic soundscapes, the band deliver delicate and intimate original and cover songs that draw you in.
D3W3 returns on May 15 with Becky Brown, Anna Stewart and Polly Morris.
