The Waverley Singers were founded in Farnham in 1955 and so are celebrating their Platinum Jubilee this year.

They will kick off their 70th anniversary year with a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah at Saint Andrew's Garrison Church in Aldershot on March 22.

This will be the fifth time the choir has performed this wonderful work, which is full of high drama both musically and emotionally.

Three up-and-coming young soloists from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London will sing alongside experienced baritone and BBC singer Andrew Rupp, who will take the part of Elijah, and the professional musicians of the Chameleon Arts Orchestra will perform the work alongside them and the choir.

The Waverley Singers have always enjoyed their relationship with the Herald, which over the years has published many reviews of its concerts.

Now, as it launches a new website to commemorate its Platinum Jubilee, the choir is appealing to Herald readers to help it complete its archive of material about past events.

Website editor Sir Mike Aaronson said: “Our website already contains many historic accounts of our concerts - posters, concert images, concert programmes and reviews.

“But there are some gaps, particularly from our early history, and we would be extremely grateful if Herald readers could take a look in their cupboards and see if they have stored away any old materials they would be willing to share with us so we can copy them and upload them to the website.

“They might wish to look at the searchable Events Archive on the site first to see whether they have anything we do not.

“If so, we would be very grateful if they could email [email protected] and we will get back to them.”

The website address is waverleysingers.com and tickets for the Elijah concert can also be purchased there.
