A superb summer sellout – St Peter’s Church was full to bursting for Luminosa’s latest concert, The American Connection.

The audience’s anticipation for this selection of transatlantic musical treats was running high, and Luminosa did not disappoint.

The performance began with American folk songs, including Down To The River and Shenandoah, described by an audience member bedecked in the Stars and Stripes as “a real taste of home”.

Luminosa Young Voices gave a short but lively set including Let’s Do It, delivered with energy, enthusiasm and jazz hands.

Luminosa Chamber Voices began with a captivating performance of African-American spirituals. They pack a huge emotional punch but the singers gave a sensitive rendering.

The chamber voices set the tone with Blue Skies and the main choir took up the swinging sounds of Hollywood, accompanied by a handpicked jazz ensemble.

The choir showed their versatility in switching from formal to jazz style. Music from La La Land, West Side Story, Chicago, The Lion King and Aladdin made the second half a real crowd pleaser.

The encore was a dramatic tear-jerking rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel interspersed with Climb Every Mountain. This joyful romp through classics old and new was a real all-American triumph.
