Top folk musicians the Melrose Quartet will be providing the entertainment at Grayshott Folk Club’s Christmas Special.

All the songs will be seasonal or Christmassy and the event will take place at Grayshott Village Hall on December 13 at 7.30pm.

There will be lots of opportunities to join in plus a few competitions, a fully-licensed bar, mulled wine and complimentary mince pies for everyone.

The Melrose Quartet are Nancy Kerr (vocals, fiddle), James Fagan (vocals, bouzouki, guitar), Jess Arrowsmith (vocals, fiddle) and Richard Arrowsmith (vocals, melodeons).

Their seasonal show A Bright New Year is based upon their album The Rudolph Variations, which features joyous seasonal songs from traditional carols to contemporary wassails.

Nancy was Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year in 2015 and is well-loved for her appearances with The Magpie Arc, Martin Simpson, The Full English, Shake The Chains and The Transports among others – and especially for her duo with husband James Fagan.

James sings traditional and contemporary songs, especially from his native Australia, and has toured internationally with Nancy Kerr, Cara Dillon, Bellowhead, Glorystrokes and The James Brothers.

Jess, formerly of Crucible, performs with husband Richard as a duo, in ceilidh band Hekety and in trio Arrowsmith:Robb with Ian Robb of Ottawa.

Richard is recognised as one of the finest players of traditional dance music. He is principal musician for morris side Pecsaetan and a founder member of metal/ceilidh band Glorystrokes.

This will be a fun evening of music and song, dressing up, games with prizes, lots of choruses to join in with and an award for the most memorable Christmas jumper.
