The bi-monthly, free to enter Acoustic Night in The Study Room at The Fox and Pelican pub in Grayshott is always very popular.

But the concert on February 24 was a resounding success, with latecomers having to listen to the music from behind the bar in the pub lounge as by that time there was only standing room available.

The evening began with a great set of original songs from Farnham-based Peter Crutchfield, which soon had the audience laughing out loud as the topics were often about the local area. His more serious songs, particularly You Should Have Said More, were very well received.

Following on from Peter were hosts Scarlet and Sage, also known as Simon and Kathy, whose varied set included covers and original songs. They were joined by local singer-songwriter Matt Jenkins, to play his striking original Tennessee Honey, and drummer Alan Turner, providing great rhythms throughout.

The evening ended with a real treat - the marvellous and unique Polly Morris - who travelled to the event all the way from Christchurch.

On her website, Polly - who sings, writes songs and plays guitar, piano and occasionally double bass - describes herself as the imaginary love child of Bill Bailey and Victoria Wood.

She promised observational comedy songs, about such things as supermarket shopping and the perils of email, that audience members could instantly identify with, peppered with thoughtful acoustic numbers that pull at the heartstrings.

Her tongue in cheek originals had the audience in hysterics and asking for more. Polly's more serious offerings showcased her vocal talents and showmanship to perfection. A fabulous evening was had by all, and a huge thank you to The Fox and Pelican team for supporting live music in the area.

The next Acoustic Night is on April 22 from 8pm until 10pm.
