A woman who stole jewellery from two houses in Farnham by posing as a cleaner has been jailed for three years.
Monalisa Ion, 44, of Foleshill Road, Coventry, admitted six counts of theft - including others in Surrey, London and Hertfordshire - when she appeared at Guildford Crown Court on June 10.
Ion joined a different agency every time she wanted a cleaning job, knowing she would be vanishing part-way through it. Sometimes she would leave hauling a bin bag containing the jewellery.
Between January 2022 and January 2024 she stole £90,000 worth of jewellery from homes she purported to be cleaning, including a solitaire diamond engagement ring and several luxury brand watches.
On January 5, 2024, a Farnham home owner reported an engagement ring and a diamond necklace stolen. A second theft was reported in Farnham at the end of the month.
Surrey Police found both properties had been cleaned by someone new, and arrested Ion at her home. Her phone contained photographs of the jewellery and officers discovered pawn shop receipts from when she sold the stolen items.
Speaking after the court case, PC Cummins - from Surrey Police’s local proactive unit in Guildford - said: “The home owners trusted Monalisa to be in their homes unsupervised, and this high degree of trust was broken.
“Monalisa planned these thefts by signing up to cleaning companies, and when challenged by the victims and cleaning companies she denied any involvement.
“Her actions have caused significant financial loss and emotional upset to all those involved, as the jewellery stolen held great sentimental value - and all for very little gain.
