A month of roadworks is well underway in Farnham town centre with another major road set to close next week.

Things are going to get even busier on the by-pass as a lane closure on South Street means there will be no access from the A31 crossroads to the town centre.

The Scotia Gas Networks (SGN) work to replace an old metal gas pipeline with a plastic one to ensure a “safe and reliable supply” will begin next Monday, August 12.

Work is expected to take three weeks with traffic being diverted via the Shepherd & Flock roundabout, Guildford Road and East Street.

The work will be carried out by I&G on behalf of SGN while access will be maintained for businesses and residents along the affected section.

Although traffic is nothing new for Farnham residents, it's shaping up to be a summer of disruption in the town as the work on South Street follows the recent closure of East Street.

Bus services will be affected by the South Street works but not as heavily as those that pass along East Street and the 16, 17, 18 and 19 will follow their usual route.

Return journeys will take the route from Farnham Station to the Coxbridge Roundabout, then onto West Street to Farnham Borough and return to their normal route.

The evening Stagecoach service 5 will operate normally, but the return journey will divert via the approach road, Firgrove Hill, Downing Street, and then follow the normal route.
