A couple of Twits were fired as a flaming good event in Farnham Park proved another dazzling success.

The heat was on last Saturday as the touchpaper was lit on the annual Farnham Fireworks and Torchlit Procession.

Hundreds of people snapped up tickets to join the annual showcase organised by Farnham Round Table with a staggering £35,000 being raised for local good causes.

The fun began at Waggon Yard with revellers grabbing their flaming torches and joining a procession led by Farnham town mayor, Cllr Brodie Mauluka.

They followed a trail through the town centre and past the castle to Farnham Park with the bonfire being lit ahead of a dazzling display of fireworks.

There was a classy touch as the effigy that went up in flames was the winning entry in the FiftyforFawkes Guy competition organised by the Round Table.

The group’s chairman, Alex Donald, opted for the fantastic Mr & Mrs Twit submission by The Abbey School Farnham after much deliberation.

But it was a tough decision with submissions by Hale School, Potters Gate School, The Chantrys Community, Folly Hill Infant Academy, St Marys CoE Infant School, Tootsies Private Day Nursery and St Andrew’s CoE Infant School all getting £50 for their fantastic entries.

The first fireworks were lit around 7.30pm but there was plenty of banging in the build up, with Farnham Taiko impressing with their hypnotic drumming.

And there was definitely a party in the park with drink, food and live music all adding to a memorable evening.

Farnham Round Table would like thank their Gold sponsors, Farnham College, for their support, while the event’s Bronze sponsors were MFC IT Services and Locamed. And of course the biggest thanks must go to the many volunteers and groups that helped out on the night and beforehand.
