GROUPS and organisations have until Friday, January 22, to submit an application for a grant from the South Street Trust.

The trust awards around £20,000 per year to organisations seeking funding for art-based educational activities.

Previous recipients have included The Dance Movement for their Farnham Blooming dance project, a textile techniques project at The Abbey School and a community craft project run by Opportunities.

The South Street Trust was set up following the sale of the Farnham School of Science and Art in 1986/87.

The school was established by local philanthropists James and John Knight in 1880 for the ‘instruction of children and adults in drawing, painting, modelling, designing for architecture, manufacture and decoration and for no other purpose’.

The proceeds from the sale were invested and now provide an annual income that is used to fund art-based activities.

The chairman of the South Street Trust, Pat Frost, said: “In my capacity as the Mayor of Farnham, I have had the privilege of visiting many of the organisations that have received funding during 2015/16.

“I have seen some creative projects that have provided exciting opportunities for members of the community to experience something different and new. I would like to encourage anybody with a project in mind to apply for funding.”

Farnham Town Council is the trustee of the fund. Members of the council assess the applications in March and award grants to those that meet the criteria.
