Despite rain warnings the sun was shining for the Rowledge Village Fayre on the final May Sunday.
The Recreation Ground was full of people and the car park had to be shut as early as 1.30pm as the event had reached full capacity. Rowledge School gymnastics opened the fayre with the new addition of a stilt walker and giant bubbles.
Volunteer Daisy Bennett said: “We were very lucky that the threat of rain held off and the sun shone on the fayre. Set up started at 6.30am and it was a hive of activity until we left the rec after clear down at 6.30pm.
“We had changed the historic date from a Monday to a Sunday so we were worried that people might not come, but they came in droves and stayed all day to enjoy everything on offer.”
Live music was provided by Britt Bailey and Junction 4 Big Band to draw in the crowds and ‘Meet the Makers’ was heralded as a huge success, with local artisans showing off their craftsmanship.
For little ones there were bouncy attractions, pony and tractor rides, tug of war and wheelbarrow races. Beloved pet pooches were on full display in the dog show and people tried their luck in the raffle for Disney World tickets.
The BBQ and Pimms tent was not only a hub of good food and drinks, but the cups were reusable and provided by local Goode Cups. Part of a sustainability drive between the fayre and Plastic Free Farnham, with a report due to be published outlining what was saved from landfill.
Daisy added: “This year just generally had good vibes, all in all a very heartwarming day that we are looking forward to hosting again next year.”
