Pensioners can start making lunch plans as two organisations dedicated to supporting older people in Farnham have teamed up to help combat isolation.

Home Instead has offered free transport in its wheelchair-accessible vehicle to someone who would like to attend one of Farnham Assist’s monthly lunches.

The scheme was launched at an event attended by Cllr Brodie Mauluka, Mayor of Farnham.

The number of older adults struggling with loneliness and isolation continues to rise after the pandemic with lack of transport remaining an obstacle for many in reaching events.

"We are delighted to extend our support to Farnham Assist by offering the free use of our wheelchair-enabled company car and a volunteer to transport individuals in need to the monthly lunch event,” said Mahdi Kazemzadeh, franchise director for Home Instead Farnham, Farnborough and Fleet.

“This collaboration with Farnham Assist aligns with our vision to combat social isolation and enhance the wellbeing of ageing adults in our community.

"We are proud to support their amazing work to make a significant impact in the lives of older individuals locally."

Farnham Assist is a Christian organisation which supports older people who have become isolated from friends and neighbours.

It runs monthly lunches in Farnham and drivers with enhanced DBS checks and specialised training will continue to provide free transport to these lunches. ThE initiative aims to help one more community member enjoy conversation and friendship.
