East Hampshire District Council has allocated £69,339 in Community Climate Action Fund grants in its third and final round of funding.
Over the three rounds the council has provided a total of £250,000 to support projects that help improve energy efficiency and educate people about climate change.
The council received 15 applications for this round with a value of £158,000, more than double the available budget. Eight grants were allocated.
There was £5,361 for Alton Climate Action Network for community outreach, guided walks and creative workshops to create a culture of action.
Horndean Parish Council received £12,000 towards the Horndean Green Trail and Heritage Network, which will create a network of footpaths and trails around the parish to encourage walking and cycling.
A grant of £6,478 went to Cycle Alton to improve its cycling in Alton map and help fund a cycle shelter.
There were three £8,000 grants towards the cost of solar panels - for Alton Rugby Club’s clubhouse, to Petersfield Community Association for Petersfield Community Centre, and to The Grain House Trust for the Alton Maltings Centre.
Alton Men's Shed was given £9,000 towards replacing single glazing on the windows and doors of its headquarters.
And there was £12,500 for the Petersfield Climate Action Network to support its continuing climate change community outreach programme.
Cllr Robert Mocatta - who is East Hampshire District Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and prosperity, which includes climate and the environment - said: “The Community Climate Action Fund has been a great way to support local action on climate change.
“We’ve supported a total of 28 projects across the district and I’m proud of the difference the grants have made.
“The fund may now be closed but it will have a legacy for many years to come.”
