Badshot Lea orchard is undergoing some TLC a year after it was saved from a housing development.

Ten houses were earmarked for the ancient orchard but a Tree Preservation Order and petition scuppered the bid by Elivia Homes.

The firm hasn’t been a bad apple and has accepted the responsibility of maintaining and enhancing the site.

Cllr Chris Jackman, who represents Badshot Lea and Moor Park, said: “Elivia is doing a good job at clearing the site of brambles, lifting the canopies so that other things can grow underneath, and making safe damaged trees.

“Once it is in a suitable state, we hope that Badshot Bloomers and the wider community will be able to help maintain it.

“There is all manner of wildlife there, including self-seeded apple trees and oaks, fungi, deer and bats, and with tender love and care, imagine what a wildlife haven the orchard will be in years to come.”
