A director can’t wait to engage with theatregoers as a long-serving ambition will be fulfilled when the curtain rises on an am-dram production in Tilbourne.
The Tilbourne Players will take to their stage with their version of the JB Priestley classic When We Are Married next Wednesday, November 13.
Their director, Hilary Lee-Corbin, can’t wait for the four-night run to begin with tickets selling well for the shows in the Tilbourne Institute.
She said: “I have wanted to direct When We Are Married for a number of years.
“It’s a play which has never been out of the theatrical repertoire since it was first performed in 1938 and it is one of the all-time greats of classic comedy.
“She added: “Priestley used his plays to put over his own ideas, both social and political, and in this play he exposes the smugness and hypocrisy of the Edwardian middles classes.”
The “very funny” play is set in Priestley’s home county of Yorkshire and the action centres around three couples who get together to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary.
Their chapel organist has been seen “carrying on” and the men attempt to “give him a good talking to” but his retort and surprising revelation leads to trouble and a souring of the celebratory atmosphere.
Evening performances will take place from Wednesday to Saturday at 7.30pm with a 2pm on matinee on the latter.
Tickets are £13 to include a programme and can be purchased from www.tilbourneplayers.org.uk
