The 2nd Bentley Scout Group hosted a record-breaking crowd at its May jumble sale on Saturday, May 18.
The event was held at the Scout Hut on School Lane in Bentley. Over 1,000 people came to buy all kinds of items including gardening tools, gardening equipment, books, CDs, clothes, bric-a-brac, china, framed art, furniture and there was even a full-size skeleton up for sale.
Guests came from as far away as Croydon, Portsmouth, Southampton and Eastleigh and queues to enter the sale at 2pm stretched the length of the recreation field to the hedge at the bottom of the field.
The sale raised over £2,800 which the group will use to fund new equipment and help with the cost of running the Scout hut.
Melissa Sailsbury, chair of the trustees, said
“This has been a fantastic turnout, this is the most people we’ve ever had at a jumble Sale. I would like to thank all the volunteers who have given their time to help setup, sell and then clear up at the end. We have been very lucky that so many people have donated so much for us to sell. We have a fantastic group of volunteers who turn out twice a year for our Jumble sales, but we are always looking for more people to come and help.”
The next 2nd Scout Group’s Jumble Sale will be on Saturday 21st September 2024 and the group will return for next year’s May sale on Saturday 16th May 2025 hoping to break records again.
