Is it a sign of desperation or a genius marketing ploy?
Today, Brightwells announced it would be offering one independent business owner the chance to Win A Shop for a whole year.
The initiative will give away a retail space rent-free for 12 months to a “passionate entrepreneur” in “one of Surrey’s most vibrant shopping and lifestyle destinations”.
The controversial mixed-use development has been plagued by pullouts of key retailers, meaning many of the stores are now empty.
A spokesperson for Brightwells said: “This initiative is designed to support new and emerging businesses, helping them establish themselves in one of Surrey’s most vibrant shopping and lifestyle destinations.
“Farnham has long been known for its thriving arts scene, independent retailers, and creative community, making it the perfect location for a unique and innovative business to grow.
“Brightwells is seeking passionate entrepreneurs who can bring something fresh to the area,” the spokesperson added.
The competition is open to businesses without a physical storefront, including startups, online ventures looking to expand, and those seeking relocation.
The winning business will receive a rent-free retail space for an entire year, offering an opportunity to establish its brand and engage with the local community in Farnham.
Nominations are now open, welcoming submissions from both business owners and the public.
To enter, applicants must explain why they or their nominated business would be a good fit for Brightwells and how this opportunity would contribute to their success.
The deadline for entries is Friday, March 21, with more information at: www.brightwells-farnham.com
