Surrey’s “poet laureate” has waxed lyrical about the start of an exciting new chapter at Farnham Library.
Farnham has yet another creative outlet as a Wednesday morning Poetry Hub was recently launched in the West Street landmark.
It’s billed as a place where people of all backgrounds can come together to share, write and experience poetry.
It’s part of a scheme by the Surrey Poet Laureateship to “bring poetry into the heart of our communities” with its figurehead, Adam Gary, hailing the success of its launch.
He said: “The launch event was a fantastic of celebration of poetry, community and creativity.
“We were honoured to have the Mayor of Waverley join us, and the session was filled with laughter and engaging discussions.”

Mr Gary added: “We’ve already received some incredible feedback from local residents.
“One said to me it’s great to have a hub here in Farnham and couldn’t wait to come back.
“There was a really inviting atmosphere. It was so warm and creative.”
Participants at the inaugural meeting delved into William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18. The following analysis inspired attendees to write their own poems, drawing on themes explored by Oscar Wilde, during an encouraging session.

The Farnham Poetry Hub is the latest in a series to be opened around Surrey with two-hour sessions taking place every Wednesday at the library from 11am.
“These sessions are designed to be open and welcoming to anyone interested in poetry, whether they are seasoned poets or new to the genre,” added Mr Gary.
“Each week, we aim to explore different themes and authors, providing a varied and enriching experience for all participants.”
The SLP aims to capture the spirit of Surrey through the “evocative and powerful medium of poetry” through the likes of workshops, readings, community events and hubs. More details at www.surreypoetlaureateship.org
