Rail bosses have given pupils from a village school top marks for brightening up Bentley station.
Commuters are getting a colourful welcome as autumn and landscape-inspired artwork by Binsted Primary School pupils has gone on display in the waiting room.
The Wey Valley Community Rail Partnership is giving pupils from three nearby schools the opportunity to put in their artwork in the frame with six up for grabs.
Pupils from Bentley and Rowledge will also have a chance to display artwork at the station with Binsted getting the first opportunity.
The pieces include a beautiful autumn tree, made using recycled materials like plastic and tissue paper, to highlight the importance of recycling.
The Wey Valley partnership is a non-profit organisation which looks after stations from Alton to Guildford and works with local authorities to seek improvements.
“We identified that Bentley station needed a little bit of tender love and care,” said Mark Miller, director of the Hampshire Community Rail Partnership, with the frames being installed in collaboration with South Western Railway.
“We are more than delighted that Binsted school took us up on our offer to brighten up the station with the pupils’ artwork.”
Pupils were thrilled to see their work on display in the station while their teacher, Mrs Norwood, is proud of their efforts.
She said: “The children really enjoyed their time and felt very special.”
“I think it’s really brilliant and is far better than something I could do myself,” said station ambassador, James Loftine.
“I think they’ve done a wonderful job and it’s great that we’ve got more to come.”
This initiative is part of an ongoing project to bring some artwork to the station, while the partnership is keen to develop its links with local schools and offer more artistic opportunities to Year 6 pupils.
