THE new Mayor of Waverley, Chris Storey, held his annual civic service at St George’s Church in Badshot Lea on Sunday, July 10.

The civic service is held every year, and celebrates the inauguration of the mayor Farnham Weybourne and Badshot Lea councillor Mr Storey who was elected as Mayor of Waverley at the annual council meeting in May.

Guests included mayors from neighbouring local authorities, past and present mayors of Waverley, town, parish and county councillors alongside Waverley councillors and officers.

Mr Storey said: “It was a real honour to be able to hold the service in the ward that I am councillor for and at my local church.

“The support I have received since being elected exactly two months ago has been amazing.

“Highlights so far include meeting lots of residents as I have travelled across the borough and witnessing the generosity of so many people.”

Over the year the mayor will attend a variety of charity events, civic functions and other engagements, representing the council and raising money for this year’s mayoral charities – Royal Surrey County Hospital and Change of Scene.
