While anticipation builds for the opening of Farnham’s new doctors’ surgery, it’s a spelling mistake on the banner that’s grabbing the most attention.

The sign announcing the new Central Surgery reads: “Coming soon... Working in partnership with Waverley Borough Council to deliver your new Central Surgey

The misspelling of the word ‘surgery’ quickly sparked a flurry of comments on social media.

“I hope they got a refund on the banner,” one Facebook user joked.

The town centre surgery is due to open on Monday, February 3 on Union Street after relocating from its former premises on Downing Street.

The NHS said the state-of-the-art facility would replace the old building, “providing high-quality healthcare needs of the community”.

The new premises will allow the practice to enhance its services and ensure a better experience for patients, said Dr Edward Wernick, GP partner at Downing Street Group Practice.

"We are incredibly excited about this new chapter for our practice. We remain fully committed to providing the same exceptional care with the same fantastic team,” he added.

He said the new premises would be better equipped to meet the needs of patients in “a welcoming, modern setting”.

“We are looking forward to opening our doors to everyone as Central Surgery,” added Dr Wernick.

Cllr Mark Merryweather, Waverley Borough Council portfolio holder for finance, assets and property, said the surgery would “ensure that the practice can stay in the heart of Farnham town centre” and would “grow to meet the needs of our local community”.
