One of Farnham’s oldest rumours has been circulating through town again as new developments and work at Brightwells Yard pick up speed.

Since the Marlborough Head was purchased as part of the East Street and Brightwells regeneration scheme, the story of a JD Wetherspoon moving in has become the talk of the town.

In 2021, rumours of Wetherspoons knocking down three retail spaces in Brightwells to create a massive pub were widespread. But the company confirmed it’s not currently looking at Farnham as a new location.

Wetherspoon may have been deterred by David Howell’s critical view of the rumours back in 2021.

Howell said: “Call me whatever you like, but I honestly think that this could be the worst possible newcomer to Farnham. Especially to a family-friendly residential environment that they would be an integral part of.”

For David Howell and residents, the rumours of Wetherspoons arrival are false.
